About this Hymn
The original title of this hymn gives us a sense of Charles Wesley's heart when he wrote it: "After a Relapse into Sin." You probably know what it is like to feel as though you have fallen to a place where you do not deserve to be forgiven, or you should know better than to be where you are. But here is the good news of redeeming grace: "Jesus loves and seeks me still."
Lyrics
Verse 1
Depth of mercy! Can there be mercy still reserved for me? Can my God his wrath forbear; me, the chief of sinners, spare?
Verse 2
I have long withstood his grace, long provoked him to his face, would not listen to his calls, grieved him by a thousand falls.
Verse 3
There for me the Savior stands, shows his wounds and open hands. God is love! I know, I feel; Jesus loves and seeks me still.
Verse 4
Now incline me to repent, let me all my sins lament; now my rebel heart deplore; turn, believe, and sin no more.
