About this Hymn
If we were to pause and take account of the good gifts of heaven, this hymn would help us to begin that list. It is a good exercise in gratitude to observe the miracle of nature, the love found in our closest relationships, and, most especially, the mercy shown to us by our great Savior. The lyrics overflow with a sense of thankfulness found rarely in hymnody.

For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, for the love which from our birth over and around us lies:

Christ, our God, to thee we raise this, our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night, hill and vale, and tree and flow'r, sun and moon, and stars of light:

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above; for all gentle thoughts and mild:

For each perfect gift of thine to our race so freely giv'n: graces human and Divine, flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n:
