About this Hymn
Albert Hay Malotte spent much of his career composing for the theater, including stints at Disney and Paramount in the early days of motion pictures with sound, but he is probably best known for this powerful setting of the Lord's Prayer. While many composers have set this passage from Matthew's Gospel to music, Malotte's version stands out for its ability to convey both the intimate nature of the prayer and the majestic power of its final refrain, before concluding softly with "Amen."
Lyrics
Verse 1
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, amen. Amen.
