About this Hymn
This new carol was written by Joel Stamolis, one of the writers involved in our Hymn Writing Collective. The hymn reflects on the awe and mystery of John 1:14, which tells of how the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us in Christ Jesus. The creating, sustaining, and redeeming Word of God took on the form of a tiny infant in Bethlehem—fully human yet, as the Nicene Creed declares, "Light of Light" and "very God of very God."

Verse 1
Behold, the Word the Father spoke to bring forth all creation is born a child in Bethlehem; oh, blessed incarnation.
Chorus
Very God of very God, the true Light of Light for us and our salvation came that holy Christmas night.
Verse 2
Behold, his covenantal Word assumes our lowly station as tiny infant hands enfold the hope of ev'ry nation.
Verse 3
His Word of promise we behold embodied now in Jesus, this baby wrapped in swaddling clothes has come here to redeem us.
Verse 4
Oh, praise the Word of God made flesh; with angels sing his glory, with magi fall before his feet, with shepherds tell his story.
