About this Hymn
I love how William Cowper understands that we need more than just forgiveness. We are not just guilty. We also live in a broken world, and we ourselves have been harmed and have suffered in so many ways. I find that people who've grown up in church often find it easier to say "I'm sinful" than to say "I'm broken, and I'm needy, and I'm wounded." To sing this hymn, you have to own that we need healing, that we are deeply wounded. – Kevin Twit

Our faith is feeble, we confess, we faintly trust thy word; but will you pity us the less? Be that far from you, Lord!

Remember him who once applied, with trembling, for relief; "Lord, I believe," with tears he cried; "Oh, help my unbelief!"

She, too, who touched you in the press, and healing virtue stole, was answered, "Daughter, go in peace; thy faith has made thee whole!"

Like her, with hopes and fears we come to touch you if we may; oh, send us not despairing home; send none unhealed away.
